In celebration of National Bunny Day, we’re highlighting the legendary Bunny suit—its design, evolution, and one of the iconic women who have worn it over the decades, Miss August 2000, Summer Altice.
Introduced in 1960 with the opening of the first Playboy Club, the Bunny suit became the first service uniform registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Women played a pivotal role in its creation, including actress Ilse Taurins who developed the one-piece design, and Black American designer Zelda Wynn Valdes, who crafted early versions for the Playboy Club in New York in 1962.
Today, versions of the Bunny suit are featured in prestigious art institutions, including The Costume Institute at the @metmuseum and the @smithsonian National Museum of American History.
